First Impression: The Body Shop Drops of Youth – Liquid Peel
16th July 2017
I feel like this blog post needs to come with a teeny tiny warning. The amount of dead skin you may encounter (if you choose to lay your eyes on some pictures coming up) is amazing but quite grim when you think about it. So maybe a bit of advice – don’t think about it…just admire the ‘geniusness’ of this product!
This is my First Impression of The Body Shop Liquid Peel from the Drops of Youth Range, and boy is it a good one. I wanna make it clear that this isn’t a review in terms of how it’s benefitted my skin over time, but more of a first glance at just how this product works and the insane process it takes your skin through.
The Drops of Youth range aims to tackle those initial signs of aging by giving your skin a helping hand in tackling those fine lines and wrinkles. I never really knew what the best time was to start using products that do exactly that. But I thought to myself, there’s no point waiting until I’ve got a handful of wrinkles and hoping that after using a serum they’ll magically disappear. I feel at the age of 22, being surrounded by really funny, happy people (smile lines) and using a LOT of facial expressions (eyebrow movement is in full swing)…now’s the time.
The Drops of Youth range currently consists of 9 products ranging from masks to lotions. It’s also worth noting that the Liquid Peel is available in different ranges for different purposes; Drops of Light (I’m after this one next! Kirby I’m looking at you gal.) and Vitamin C. There’s no denying that this product has me curious about what else The Body Shop has to offer.
The liquid peel is a soft exfoliator that is 100% VEGAN! The bottle size is 145ml, which in my opinion, is great for the price (£18.00).
Whenever I hear the word ‘exfoliator’ I think of a product that’s a little harsh on the skin, a bit scratchy but does the job – yano what I mean. But this is a clear, gel like substance that’s super smooth and easy to rub into your skin. No tiny microbeads that get into your hairline every time you use it. And yes, it’s clear, not green, although that would be cool.
The magic of this product, is that it lifts dead skin, impurities and dirt from your skin RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES. This isn’t a skincare product where ‘you’re not really sure if it’s doing anything’, meaning you have to wait another 2 weeks or so to see if it works or not. This liquid peel happens right at your fingertips – literally.
This is to be used 2-3 times a week and 2 pumps are required for a full face exfoliation. It would be amazing to have just the one pump for my whole face to see the product last a little longer (student mindset). Depending on how much dead skin you have resting on your face to begin with, will depend on how long you need to rub before you start seeing the magic.
The first time I used this, it was instant. I’m a little embarrassed but, I had A LOT of dead skin. After 2 circular sweeps over my cheeks, dead skin started to roll up with the rest of the liquid under my fingertips. It was a little horrifying, but the confirmation that THIS THING WORKS kept me wanting more.
I moved onto my forehead, my chin and my nose (THE WORST AREA FOR ME!) and was left staring at myself in the mirror covered in dead skin, shook af, and ready to rinse to see the real immediate result.
After rinsing and washing away the tiny bits of skin, my face has never been so soft. I mean I should really stop touching it because my pores will get angry and lash out with a few spots. But I JUST CANT STOP.
I’ve since got my brother AND my dad to use it (both horrific amounts of dead skin, we couldn’t stop laughing) and my Dad genuinely wants a bottle. I’m sorry, what’s that? A male being completely open about wanting a skincare product to use 2-3 times a week? CAN WE GET AN AMEN??? Check it out for yourself here!
All in all, I am obsessed with this product. I’m trying so hard not use it every day and go by the suggested guidelines. Yeah, THAT obsessed. Please let me know if you’ve tried this in the comments or if it’s firmly on you’re wish list!
